The Big Box Wine Bar

"Big Box Event Containers"Our newest baby, the object of much planning and designing, has finally arrived. We think that the versatility of our event boxes are its mayor strengths. It is also very funky and fun to Big Box Wine Baruse. Big Box Containers, in partnership with die Burger, showcased three event boxes, including our Wine Bar, at this year’s Klein Karoo National Arts Festival. The bar created quite a buzz and was one of the most photographed objects of the festival. If you’re in the event planning business, or you’re a brand that directly reaches out to your community – your options for outdoor hospitality venues is limited to tents, and…well, tents. With our new wine bar as well as our big range of cold storage containers and ablution containers, we provide the ultimate in canned events! Or more aptly put: “event in a box”.

If you are interested in talking to us about container rentals or customized container conversions to adress your event needs, please contact our Cape Town Branch for more information.

Dinner with a difference: the chefs who cook with soya and pilchards

Celebrity chefs Reuben Riffel, Margot Janse, Darren Roberts and Neil Jewell are used to preparing sumptuous meals for the who’s who of South African society at their Franschhoek restaurants, but the ingredients used for a special fundraising dinner on October 9 will be very different from the usual.

On the menu will be dishes made from soya relish, pilchards and breyani lentils: the staple fare of the more than 275,000 children in more than 750 schools in the Western Cape who are given a hearty daily meal by the Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA).

As Margot Janse, Executive Chef at Le Quartier Français explains, “This night is so important. We spend most of our time cooking for the fancy, but we can’t ignore the fact that there are hungry children out there.”

The fundraising dinner is going to help ensure that children across the Western Cape are given a good meal at school each day.

“Our guests are going to get a great meal, but more importantly the R370 they pay for a single night out will be used to feed a hungry child for a year,” says Reuben Riffel, owner and executive chef at Reuben’s Restaurant. Big Box Containers is proud to be associated with Peninsula School Feeding Association. To get involved please have a look on their website

Building schools with recycled containers

Kabouter DromeOn the 26th of May 2010, Big Box Containers in partnership with Media24, delivered a fully functional preschool classroom and a kitchen to Kabouter Drome Speelskool at Klipfontein Primary School in the Bonteheuwel community.

During school holidays, especially the long June/July school break, the facility will host constructive holiday programmes and reading projects to further assist in keeping children of the community off the streets and the subsequent dangers thereof.

The area around Klipfontein is marred by violence, which is mainly caused by conditions of serious poverty. It is against this backdrop that a place of safety can help children to take their first steps towards learning, and thereby realising their potential for creating a better life.

And as we believe that a hungry child cannot learn, Big Box Containers also built a fully functional kitchen to provide nutrition for the young learners.
